IISSPCS certifications are valid for 3 years during which you must accumulate activity points (by attending conferences, writing papers, etc.) to ensure your information security skills remain current.
ISSPCS certification recognises that technology advances at a rapid rate and Information Security sits at the cutting edge of technology; certifications that were up to date a few years ago, may not necessarily be so today.
ISSPCS also acknowledges the time and expense spent preparing for certification and the ISSPCS Academic Board has decided to award recertifications based on the applicant's involvement and exposure to non-job related Information Security events during the previous term of their certification.
Each certified individual must achieve a defined number of Activity Points (APs) over the three year term of their certification. The exact number of APs the individual must achieve depends on your certification level. When applicants recertify, you must equal or exceed the required number of APs for their certification.
The minimum activity points required every 3 years by certification are:
| Certification level |
Activity Points |
| ISSPCS Practitioner |
750 |
| ISSPCS Professional |
900 |
| ISSPCS Mentor |
1000 |
| ISSPCS Fellow |
N/A |
The Activity Points Reference details the points allocated for specific activities.
Until the AP recording system is available, ISSPCS certified individuals must keep their own notes of accumulated Activity Points for entry at a later date. ISSPCS certified individuals are required to record the following details for all AP entries:
- Date of event.
- Type of event/activity (eg, attending an Information Security course, serving on a SIG council).
- Activity name/Event title (eg, the course's title, your article's title, the SIG's name).
- Event provider or publisher (if appropriate).
- If the event/activity is internet based, where can it be found for validation? (URL)
- Number of hours undertaken (if appropriate).
- Explain how this event/activity is relevant to your continued Information Security growth.
- Number of APs you are claiming for this event.
NOTE: ISSPCS reserves the right to review all Activity Point values and requirements.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding activity points.
